I haven’t read the book, I’ll only talk about the show, as a story.
Short answer : I don’t think it will have another season.
Why ?
The message ?
We didn’t find the “You” Joe was searching, the soul mate, the one that he’ll live happy ever after. Because she doesn’t exist or if he thinks it’s Marianne…we know, it’s a matter of time before he find another potentiel “You”. Maybe it’s because as it was said in the season, it’s a cultivated by decision and effort to maintain a good and sain relationship.
No Evolution (because it’s already enough ?) :
This season is great, they can end there. This season had Joe, yes but also Love, this character gave the show more perspective and a story never told in the show and their baby, Henry Forty, gave them purpose, needs them more matured so they tried…
We had the most interesting season: wife (the only one that can know and accept him entirely)
a child : magical moments and observations and a reason to be better everyday.
combining the two we have : Family.
We saw Joe having a family, we can end there xD
Seriously, we observed him in this crucial position, going backward : no wife, no child, no family…it’s not attractive for a season 4…it will be a season 1 or 2-bis….
They also faced the most challenging opponent to oversmart until now. The guy with the cameras and tech things, the money and the obsessiveness to not let them fly by, it’s only a matter of time until they are caught being evident proofs.
Flashback argument:
another reason I think it’s the last season : we watched more scenes of Joe flashback than in the previous seasons, maybe be to let’s us know more about his past so that we have a sufficient knowledge how he grew up.
Which means : You know him now, okay bye.
Societal critics:
every season had it’s own fair critics of the American society and if it’s in France, so maybe going to France is a sign that the show is finished, because they won’t critized it as well as the other seasons and even characters, or Joe goes back to USA…but it’s risky, he has some enemies and acquaintances there.
if they will speak in French, it’s risky for the habituel public xD
